Chiltern Hundred may be a Lottery

The 1250 riders who are signed up for the Chiltern Hundred on Sunday 6th June are in for a rare treat.

Decca, the suppliers of the exclusive Chiltern Hundred cycling kit, are one of the sponsors of the Belgian Lotto Ladies Pro Team. They will be bringing over four of the ladies to ride the event. They will be travelling to Great Missenden direct from races in France and Spain.

The final team is not yet confirmed but will probably include Liz Hatch and Femke van den Driessche, the Belgian Junior Champion. Other members of the Lotto Ladies squad include Grace Verbeeke, the Belgian National Champion and winner of the 2010 Ladies Tour of Flanders and also Rochelle Gilmore, the current World Pursuit Champion.

The 2010 Chiltern Hundred kit will be on sale at the HQ.

Automated Timing with no Transponder to Fit!

This year the Chiltern Hundred have selected TDL to be their chosen timing partner.  Part of the choice was to do with TDL’s latest technological solution which will benefit all riders at the 2010 event.

TDL are offering the ChronoTrack Systems™ the world’s most advanced timing system. ChronoTrack Systems™ D-Tag™ is a single-use RFID slim tag that records cyclists’ time.  Because it is so slim it can be included in the riders number board which is made up in advance of the event, and is attached to the handle bars with 2 zip ties. This eliminates the need for bulky timing chips, a separate fixing to your bike, potential for damage on removal, and expensive replacement costs for riders when the chips are not returned.

Eddie Spriggs, lead organsier of the Chiltern Hundred, commented:

“The benefits are great for participants and organizers alike.  It means there is less to hand out at registration making for faster sign on.  There is no special fitting process requiring bikes to be taken apart and reassembled, as required by some sportives, and with all the potential hazards that it brings.

There’s no possibility of damage to a rider’s “pride and joy”.  And on return we just give you the goody bag without the need to collect the transponders.  Its smarter, simpler, and all you need to do is to fit your number board! What could be easier?”

Whopping Team Challenge

After 3 years of facilitating a teams event the Chiltern Hundred Team Challenge has really been taken to heart!

This year there is a total of 18 teams who have specifically requested to take the challenge.  9 teams from last year are back for more, along with 9 new teams.  The Team Challenge accounts for 255 of 900 entrants across the Gran and Medio Fondos.  The teams entered for 2010 are listed and a link provided to their home websites.

The purpose of the Teams event is to increase the fun for those riders from larger organizations, and who inevitably struggle to get a decent number of entries to the popular sportives that sell out quickly.  It’s a shame since there is a lot more fun when riding as a team rather than riding as a single entrant.  The banter it stirs up usually lasts for weeks after the event.

The Chiltern Hundred recognizes the problem and for those teams that are accepted they can get up to 15 guaranteed places and up to 2.5 months to get their guaranteed places filled.  Those teams that want more just have to get their riders psyched up to enter straight away as once the guaranteed places are filled places are limited when entries run out.  The Chiltern Hundred reserves up to 250 guaranteed places in total for teams in order to ensure plenty of places for all other riders.

The Team Challenge rates the team’s 6 best finishers, based on the individual awards and assigns a team standard award.  The best 6 finishers are not necessarily the fastest riders as the individual award is allocated by ride, gender and age.

If you would like your team to apply for a team entry for 2011 please send an email to the event organizer, preferably before entries open in mid Jan 2011.

The Corto Fondo refreshment stop will be found after leaving Oakly.  We originally wanted this to be at Brill but for safety reasons we feel the Oakly location will be safer.

Chiltern Railways Partner Chiltern Hundred

Chiltern Railways are happy to partner the Chiltern Hundred Cyclosportive once again by making 300 parking places available for free to riders in the sportive.

Chiltern Railways, who operate the rail passenger services from London Marylebone, through the Chilterns, to Birmingham Snow Hill, support a number of local community events across their route.  Details of Chiltern Railways services can be found at www.chilternrailways.co.uk.

This is another way in which Chiltern Railways help play their part in the local community, which it serves.

On arrival at the Station car park in Great Missenden, riders will be given a free parking pass for display, and directed to the car park made available by Chiltern Railways.

Riders should then prepare themselves and their bikes before cycling down the High Street to event Headquarters at Misbourne School.  At the HQ riders must sign on, collect their number, route map/instructions, and transponder.  Riders can also take refreshments at the HQ and meet up with friends before starting their ride.

Eddie Spriggs said “This is great news as Great Missenden, has limited car parking.  There will be no parking at the HQ this year, so this and the Junior School car park off link road will be the main car parks for 2009.  It will also help to minimise disruption to the local community on the day.”

Did you know? Chiltern Railways realised that they needed to get more cars off the road, so they developed ‘three for free’.  This gives a free car parking space for people parking between 0600 and 0900 weekdays for those passengers who decide to share a lift to the station with two other rail passengers.

If you want to find people making the same journey as you, you can do so by using Chiltern Carshare, which provides you with a free travel partner search.  To do this, simply register at: www.chilternrailways.co.uk/carshare.

Its official: It’s Brill!

The Chiltern Hundred Challenge today announces the route of the Corto Fondo ride. Whilst the Gran and Medio Fondos follow the classic route the organisers are committed to developing a new Corto Fondo route each year.

For 2009 the route is 54 miles (86km), once again incorporating the Amersham RCC 50 mile road challenge, and takes riders out to the lovely Oxfordshire village of Brill.  At Brill the riders will be delighted and rewarded by a refreshment stop.

The Corto leaves Great Missenden along the valley road passing Chequers on the left before Butler’s Cross. The route cuts through Terrick and Bishopstone and on to Stone.

At Stone riders cross the A418 and cycle into the Waddesdon Manor Estate.  This private park provides 2 miles of traffic free cycling through oak lined avenues, and takes you to the top of the Winchendon ridge.

Riders cycle along the ridge with its stunning views before dropping down to Chearsley. Then via Chilton reaches Brill, after 26 miles. The return journey takes riders through attractive villages and hamlets on quiet country lanes including Long Crendon, Cuddington, Dinton, Owlswick, Pitch Green and Bledlow.

The route returns to the Chilterns over the scarp slope at Looseley Row.  Then back to Great Missenden via Hampden. The Corto Fondo map is now available and the written route description will be update shortly.

The ride will end in the Saddlebag Café at the HQ for a well deserved tea or coffee, roll and cake.  Once again the Roald Dahl Foundation will run the Saddlebag Café and delight us with home made rolls and cakes to raise funds to help children.

All in all it’s sure to be a Brill day out!
